His Wisdom for Her World

Happily Ever Afters

All little girls have dreams.  They dream of Prince Charming riding in on a white horse and sweeping them away to exotic places.  They dream about being a mom and a wife.  They dream about love and family. Little girls dream of a happily ever after.

Little girls don’t dream of being single when they thought they would be married. They don’t dream that they may never become a mom. Little girls don’t dream of love lost or hearts broken or about the realities of day-to-day life.

What happens when the “Happily Ever After” looks different from what we imagined?

Growing up, I always thought I would be a mother. I never dreamed that would mean I would not have my own children.  I always thought I would be able to give my parents a 50th anniversary party. I never dreamed that I would be a child of divorce. I always thought my dad would live to be a hundred. I never dreamed that in his early sixties my brother and I would stand by my father’s bed as we removed him from mechanical ventilation giving him back to God.  I always thought I would serve in the local church. I never dreamed I would be serving as a dean at a seminary or that each day would be a lesson in how to be a strong, driven, called woman with a “gentle and quiet spirit” (That is still a daily lesson for me!)

Perhaps life turned out differently from how you had dreamed too. These difficult, unexpected, and complicated life turns can challenge our convictions and our faith.

I, along with many of the women I serve, know what we believe and how God has instructed us to live. However, when going through the daily logistics of life, it can sometimes be difficult to consistently live a life of biblical womanhood.

I am convinced, without a shadow of a doubt, that women today are seeking freedom, meaning and validation. I am equally convinced that those things are only found in a relationship with Jesus Christ and a commitment to live according to the model God established when He first breathed the words “Let us create. . .” (Gen. 1:25)

What is BW Voices? BW Voices is a place for today’s woman who is pursuing God’s design for her life.  BW Voices is for the woman who knows what she believes, but still wonders what those beliefs look like in her “day to day.” This is also a place for the woman who questions what the Bible says to women, but has discovered that the world’s message is not working. And, BW Voices is for the woman who has found herself with an “ever-after” that is far different from what she dreamed.

Here you will find biblical answers to life’s questions. You will find tips to help you navigate the logistics of life. You will find the opportunity to dialogue with women who are walking this journey along with you. You will find straight talk, honesty and an unapologetic declaration of God’s absolute truth.

What does a biblical woman look like? A biblical woman is one who lives her life based on the absolute truth and sufficiency of Scripture. She interprets her experiences through the lens of scripture rather than letting her experience drive her beliefs and actions.  A biblical woman embraces the fact that she is woman. She knows it is not about feminism but about femininity. She understands that she is created in the image of God. She understands that amazing freedom is found fulfilling the role that God has given her.

What does she not look like? Contrary to popular belief or misconception, a biblical woman is not always married with 2.3 children and a house with a white picket fence. She can be married but she can also be single. She can have children, but she also can be without children. She can work primarily at home, but she can also be a professional woman in the marketplace.  She can be in her twenties or she can be in her seventies. It is not about the practical outworking or having a life that looks a certain way. It is about a woman, in whatever circumstance she finds herself, living by the principles and precepts of biblical womanhood.

Who are we at BW?

  • We are women who are followers of Christ.
  • We are women who are strong and passionate who seek daily to submit our strong wills and passions to God.
  • We are women who find tremendous freedom living a God-designed life.
  • We are women who do not always do it right but never stop striving to become more Christ like.
  • We are women who know firsthand the power of God’s forgiveness, healing, grace and love.
  • We are women who want every woman to know the love, forgiveness and life that is found in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • We are women who believe that biblical womanhood is a 24/7 kind of life that permeates every aspect of who we are and what we do.

We are many voices all with the same message. We are married, single, with children and without.  We represent every decade from early adulthood to the sixth decade of life and beyond. We are biblical women seeking to add our voice to the echo chamber, boldly proclaiming His wisdom for her world.

We are women who want you to find your true “Happily Ever After.” Welcome to BW Voices. We invite you to add your voice as we learn to be the women God created us to be and find freedom, fulfillment and abundant life in the twenty-first century.
